No it’s not a real image, it’s actually a really great example of Photoshop making the world a better place from Joshua Carper (Click here to check out his Instagram). However, it’s currently the most asked about product this year in my dealerships. It took about all of 5 minutes after the release of the Polaris General for the masses to start asking the question… when do we get a 4-seat model?

Released in November, the General is the latest chassis in the forever expanding Polaris family of Side by Sides. What can best be described as the result of a one-night stand between a RZR and Ranger, it ended up with Dads engine and Mom’s rear-end, combining the looks of both. It’s a long awaited cross-over model intended to fill the void when you want to balance your work and play with a single machine. It’s clearly intended to be a Commander killer and since it’s basically sitting on a RZR-S chassis with a 15 HP advantage the Commander threw in the towel before the General even started shipping.

Despite all the buzz and (so far) success of the General launch, there is 1 topic that is repeating it’s self over and over on the sales floor When is Polaris going to release a 4-seat version? In my opinion very soon, but that’s not exactly the boldest prediction in the history of Powersports. We got the Ranger, and then came the Crew. We got the RZR, and then came the RZR-4. If you look back the launches of the RZR 800, RZR-S 800, RZR 900XP, RZR 1000XP, RZR-S 900, and RZR TURBO have all been almost immediately next year or even mid model year releases of their family hauling counterparts. It’s a very been there, done that progression from the historical Polaris playbook.

Unless you get a blog post from me in the near future announcing the ACE “front and back model”, my bet is on a 2017 General-4…err I mean General Crew? I guess Mom and Dad are going to have to work that one out. In the meantime we all just have to wait, maybe A spring release Highlifter General? Because as a dealer, I wouldn’t be able to sell you 2 of them if they all came out at once… 😉

  2. Me as well. We will need a 4 seater in the next couple years and I think the General would fit that bill.
Chris, If anyone at Polaris asks….they need to add turf mode as well. The bed is nice, but it wont do much good when we are tearing up our lawns 🙂

  3. In that case it won’t be anything I care about. I would like to have something more like a Teryx 4 than a RZR.

What’s the point of 100 HP when it can’t actually haul or tow any more than any other full-size Ranger?

Because most people want 100 HP for the go fast factor, not the work factor. Rangers and Teryxs have enough HP for work now. Fun sells…….

True enough. When I replace the 800 Crew with a Teryx 4 (or something like it) it will be for fun.

  6. I agree 100%. While I love the General thus far, I still would use it for utility and I feel like turf mode is a necessity.

I still think turf mode would be a nice feature on the RZR. I loved the RZR’s we had in the past but it sucks not having turf mode especially riding around the yard or driving in and out of the garage leaving black marks all over the concrete apron. I remember making this comment years ago on another forum and several guys said ” The RZR is a sport/performance machine who needs turf mode?” I guess that may be the case but would it really hurt anything by having it at least you could use it if you wanted to.

  7. Thanks everyone for the comments about my renderings. I'm surprised how close I got with the new 2017 General4 with my General Crew concept. Hopefully Polaris will bring out a High Lifter Edition of the General, because I had more likes on it on Facebook and Instagram than I did for the General Crew.Joshua C. – Mid-South RZR & UTV Riders

No joke! Your renderings are darn close! I’m almost thinking that Polaris may have worked off your drawings a bit 😉
