    2016 Polaris XP 1000

I just bought a 2016 XP 1000 from a friend of a friend. It only has 800 miles on it. It was running when parked.

He went to start it before I bought it and it wouldn’t start. He plugged in a different ECM and it didn’t change anything so he put the original back on. He changed out the battery and after a lot of cranking it finally fired up with a little working of the throttle. Once it was warmed up it idles, runs great, and fires right back up after shutting down. I drove it and it had all the power I would expect and sounded like it was running great.

I got it home after about 3 hours and it wouldn’t start on my trailer for about 10 minutes of cranking. It finally fired up after working the throttle for a bit and again it ran awesome while I was running around my neighborhood. I parked it and went to start it after it sat overnight and same issue except this time I haven’t been able to get it fired up again.

    New Battery with full charge.
I have 60psi fuel pressure at the rail.
    Both plugs have spark.
I drained the fuel and put in fresh 91.
    Cleaned the Map sensor.
Checked compression and it only has 30psi at both cylinders cranking and it jumped to 60psi at one point.

I think this is a timing issue as it wouldn’t run as well as it did if it was truly a compression issue.

I don’t know where to go next. It ran awesome once it finally got running so I don’t think it’s anything mechanical.

    HALP!

    Check the valve clearance.
The intakes are probably too tight.
This is more common than you might think.
Also check the intake tract for dirt and dust.
Also check the rubber intake boots at the head for cracks and leaks.
The cracks might be under the clamps.

Checked the valves and sure enough intake valves were all less than .002. And the timing chain tensioner is sticky. Putting in new cups and a tensioner.

An aftermarket manual tensioner would be preferred over the hydraulic one if it doesn't have the newer manual ratcheting type.
I hope that will fix you up.
