We were running the Baldwin back roads and the RPM's were set on kill! Actually we were at 7,800 RPM for a sustained amount of time. Water Temp 180, Oil Temp 240, RPM 7,800, and then a very loud bang and complete silence! Coolant puddle under the machine! Got it back home, motor was locked up. The way it quit I thought it had dropped a valve. Pulled the head and noticed there was a notch in the piston where it had contacted a valve, also noticed that the piston looked like it was cocked in the cylinder and turned! Pulled the cylinder and found a broken piston, and the c ylinder was cracked in several places! The top end of the rod was bent! I can save the head! This was a higher mileage motor (7,000 miles), it was equipped with a 750 big bore, exhaust , web cam, Dynatek electronic and so on. Pulling it out today to split the case!

That looks extensive and expensive! Hopefully you can get it back up and running to enjoy some summer riding..

Thanks Ronnie! Putting a stock motor back in! I started buying stuff for my Prowler when I bought it! It is a dinosaur, but it serves me well!

Unfortunately sustained 7800 rpm will cause that, sorry for your loss but it does happen when we work these machines to death.
