According to a facebook post this morning, starting today riding on the streets of St. Helen will be against the law. Apparently the city mucky mucks got tired of all the complaints about SxS and ATV drivers speeding. What type of enforcement and any fines associated with said enforcement was not mentioned.

Oh boy. I will keep an eye out for more information for sure. That will sure make St. Helen less appealing for the riding crowd if the are shutting it down completely.

While its definitely possible its fake or an April fools joke, the problems of people speeding thru town are well known to those who live and ride up there often. I know the poster lives in town and has often commented on the problems with people who can't seem to obey the speed limit on the Facebook page of a club based in St. Helen and I'd be surprised if he posted what he did as a joke. I have some friends who also live there and will attempt to find out if its true or not thru them.

Well I fell for it hook line and sinker.:( It was an April Fools joke by someone that is quite vocal about the speeding inside the city and fools driving on the side walks. Maybe he was trying to send a message, hoping others like me would assume it wasn't fake news and act accordingly.

I don't know the man on a personal basis as I met him just once thru some friends that live up there but I have read his posts (and those of others) about the problems with speeding in town and even riding on sidewalks. According to the people I know the city has had talks about banning atv's/sxs's from the city so its easy to accept what he wrote as gospel. But its a two edged sword as the businesses would lose money they can't afford as there really isn't much else going for the town. Way back in the mid '60's St. Helen was a deer hunting destination for a whole lot of people.....my Dad, brothers and I included but then the state came thru and clear cut hundreds of acres and ruined it for many. I don't think it (the hunting) ever recovered so off roading and snowmobiling is just about it as far as out of town money coming in. The club Ext 222 has brought a ton of people into the area and IMO it actually was a detriment as weekend riding up there now is a cluster ****. I'll go to the jamboree once in a while but thats it.

Talking to the good folks in the St Helen area last trip up there, they stated that atv business is what keeps them going! Not enough snomobile business to keep there doors open.. that area would become a ghost town if not for offroading....good to hear that we are welcome with open arms!

St. Helen is cool. I like that it is only a 2.5 hour drive from home. I like the campground. I like the town.

The crowds however can be dangerous with the amount of trail traffic. If I do go there, it will probably be during the week or late season.

Down here in Arizona we have a lot of UTV/ATV traffic on weekends especially. But from the first of December until all the snowbirds leave most of the well-developed trails are crowded with large groups. Fortunately, most of the groups do know trail etiquette lots of courtesy on all sides. I look forward to 105° days when the comfort riders stay home.
