Well, it is that time again and I thought I would document an oil change. It's pretty self-explanatory stuff but you never really know who it might help in the future.

    What you'll need:
    11/16" wrench
    PTFE Tape
    Oil Filter (OEM is a Kohler 52 020 02, I chose a Wix 51348)
    2 Qts of 10w30
    Drain Pan
    Herculean Strength

Remove the second row, or first row, to gain access to the engine area. The oil dip stick is in yellow and right on top, fill port is right on top of the valve cover also in yellow, the oil filter is on the outboard side on the drivers side in a horizontal position, and the drain is just under the filter. It is really easy access to get to everything and the 2" lift sure helped!

Whoever installed the filter up in Arkansas was eating their Wheaties that morning, man was that thing tight! I'm not thrilled with the drain plug design - NPT is a horrible choice when common gasketed drain plugs are readily available and do not require PTFE tape! Well, I digress....

Drain the oil, remove filter, clean filter area and make sure gasket came off, put some oil on new gasket, spin until contact and then a bit more, install drain plug. Easy peasy.

It will take the 2 quarts of oil and you know what to do after that.

I also took out the air filter and gave it a quick cleaning with the air compressor. I tried like you know what to cross this filter over to someone other than VF but I came up short and ended up having to order one from my UTV dealer. It's like $30 so not the end of the world. Here is the number, I'll send you a koozie of you can cross it!

Does your wife know you stole her cake pan for oil changes ? :D :D :D

Good write up, for sure will help others out!

Crazy they used NPT type plug for the drain. Don't know what size it is, maybe 1/2 inch? I'd be tempted to try and find one of those oil drain petcocks that would thread into that hole. My worry is that in time those threads might get worn. got to be a better solution!

She found out when I prompted her to purchase a new one while at the store!

I agree on the NPT plug, this is not its intended purpose! While I cannot think of a workaround for it now I will keep it in the back of my head.
