Sometimes Polaris belts can do the same thing. Go drive it around for a little while and see if it improves.

If it worked ok with the old belt, then the new belt is probably tight. Do like Carl said, if that doesnt help you may need a different belt. Is the new belt factory or aftermarket? Saw this problem with afternarket belts in the past

With the engine off, is there play (deflection) when you push on the straight part of the belt between the clutches? There should be some deflection mabey almost an inch.....if no deflection then belt is short.

Seems like if it’s that tight you may have something going on. I would cross reference and make 100% sure it’s the belt for your machine first. After that start looking at the clutches. What were you doing when the old one broke? How many miles/ hours?

The reason I said to go drive it is that some new belts will grab just enough to make gear shifts hard. After a couple hours they loosen up. Yours sounds well beyond that situation.

Seastacker, Having same issues, new belt, hard to shift. I work out of town and wife uses it around the acreage, something finally broke. Now back to the dealer, 130 miles away. They even noted it shifted hard, so why let it go out? Going to be an interesting loading.
